5 UNMISSABLE VIEWS IN HONG KONG

A wonderful combination of its eastern and western influences, Hong Kong is one of Asia’s most rewarding destinations. In Hong Kong, one may find themselves haggling for a deal at the bustling night market after a day of shopping at some of the world’s most exclusive high end stores. There’s peace and serenity to be found visiting a traditional Buddhist temple which can be followed by a thrilling ride to the top of a futuristic skyscraper. Hong Kong has delicious street food as well as almost a hundred Michelin starred restaurants. Hong Kong boasts TWO skylines and a network of street escalators designed to save the legs from the steep hills it’s built upon.

A visitor can look at Hong Kong and all it has to offer from a variety of angles. Here are my picks for five of the best views that Hong Kong has to offer.

Hong Kong Skyline

1) Victoria Peak

Known as “The Peak” can be visited via tram or hike to the top of this hill on Hong Kong Island. At the pinnacle there are plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment options. However the big draw here is the iconic view. The double skylines of Hong Kong and Kowloon (across Victoria Harbour) are stunning both day and night. Visiting the Peak should be at the top of any Hong Kong itinerary.

2) Sky 100

Located at the top of the ICC, the tallest building in Hong Kong, this incredible observation deck makes you feel like you’re floating among the clouds. On a clear day, the 360* panoramic views are jaw dropping. Sky 100 also has interactive exhibits that can be explored while you’re conquering your fear of heights.

3) The Avenue of the Stars along the Kowloon Waterfront

Back on the ground, a stroll along the Kowloon waterfront is highly recommended.

Avenue of the Stars, Hong Kong

The Avenue of the Stars is Hong King’s version of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame with film icons like Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh subbing in for Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts. This promenade boasts great views of Hong Kong Island’s skyline along with its celebration of film.

This waterfront location also serves as a front row seat to the nightly Symphony of Light show. This amazing sound and light show plays out on the skyscrapers just across the harbour.

4) Star Ferry

Speaking of Victoria Harbour, there is no shortage of harbor cruises you can book to see the city from the water. For my money though, it’s the classic Star Ferry for the win.

Star Ferry Ride, Hong Kong

The Star Ferry is a commuter boat that takes passengers on a ten minute trip across the harbor. The views from the water are great and the price can’t be beat (pennies!)

5) The Top Deck of the Hop On Hop Off Bus

I know it sounds a little cheesy and I wouldn’t recommend it in every city, but I thought Hong Kong’s tourist bus was great. It has several routes and takes you to some pretty far flung locations all while providing you with interesting narration.

It’s a great way to acquaint yourself with the layout of the city if you’re a first time visitor. The buses help you cover a lot of ground (including the places previously mentioned on this list). Lastly the views from the top deck are wonderful.

Any way you decide to tackle Hong Kong, your efforts with bring great rewards. Enjoy Hong Kong. Enjoy the views. Then enjoy getting a closer look - there’s so much to explore.
